People really don’t give Long Island the credit their brave residents deserve. Some of the acts we’ve learned to love today hail from New York City’s largely ignored but super rad cousin, Long Island.

Straight out of Baldwin (and straight into my heart) comes Long Island’s newest sensation, Bdee.

Bdee, also known as Brian Donaldson, is a one man wonder. After acquiring a guitar, then a bass, then a keyboard, then a drum machine, and then and then and then, Bdee’s mastered the art of performing, recording and producing his own tracks over the past 12 years.

Recently signed to New York’s Dinosaurs in Vietnam Recording, Bdee’s had his Stories EP re-released and available for a free download on the label’s site.  Dinos also pulled from the thousands upon thousands of Bdee’s best tracks to create an all new compilation: Best of Bdee 2001-2004.

From first to last, each track is like nothing you’ve ever heard. Bdee successfully manages to shake you, break you, and leave you wanting more, more and more. Step aside Ariel Pink, here comes Bdee, new weird America’s fresh new face.

Unfortunately for me, the sand in my glass is going by so fast. With one more year of college left, I have a lot of things to worry about: grades, maybe grad school and definitely finding a rich husband before my six month grace period is over.

Life’s rough. Anyway, a new show season’s also beginning here is Boston and the line-up is to die for. I am most looking forward to Titus Andronicus (9/3) at the Harper’s Ferry, HEALTH (9/22) at Harper’s Ferry and finally, WAVVES (9/27) at Great Scott.

In short, all those brave enough to venture into Jersey despite the less than perfect weather enjoyed three days of music marathon madness at All Points West in Liberty Park.

Although I skipped out on day three for the Jelly NYC Pool Party, the first and second days at All Points West were more than anyone could have asked for.

Day one included acts like Fleet Foxes, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Vampire Weekend, and Telepathe. Of course, Jay-Z stole the show.

During his set, he had an explosive opening that paid tribute to the Beastie Boys, who weren’t able to make it for medical reasons, with his very own version of “No Sleep Till Brooklyn”. Yeah Yeah Yeahs were also great. Karen O is simply one of the best performers out there.

Day two headlined none other than TOOL but the main attraction for me was My Bloody Valentine . Aware of their reputation of being really ridiculously loud, I avoided the pit to save my ear drums and opted to hide behind a Stella at the nearest beer garden. Yet, that helped little to none. Even the kids in the VIP bleachers were stuffing neon orange plugs into their ears.

Gogol Bordello thrilled and had be up front and center. Although a rowdy dancer might have crushed my foot, their set was completely worth it. Look how excited I am.

Between mud wrestling, buying crafts, eating mediocre vegan food, and holding my breath past the port-o-potties, All Points West was an AMAZING experience. (Next stop: All Tomorrow’s Parties?)

Don’t have the cold hard cash to make it to Liberty Park? Well, I’ll meet you half way at this week’s pool party. So they say doors open at 2 p.m. but No Age, Deerhunter, and Dan Deacon, will attract crowds far before that time. Yep, that means sunscreen, long lines, and lots of Brooklyn Lager.

It’s a good weekend to be in the city and in celebration of such an unbelievable string of three days, I’ve created an 8tracks play list. This time around the list includes song by APW artists like My Bloody Valentine, Crystal Castles, and much more.

1) Animal Hospital, Religious Girls, Truman Peyote, and Our Brother the Native played Gay Gardens on Monday.
–Although the headline was Animal Hospital, Religious Girls stole the show. It was somewhere between the face paint, basement crowd surfing, or group howling that really got me. This band from Oakland, CA, sounded like HEALTH but with more of an electronic twist.

2) Monday,  the Smell’s tropical punk super group, Abe Vigoda, is playing the most unexpected location: Harper’s Ferry in Allston, MA.
