Food Network Foodie Making SXSW as Awkward As Ever (Rachel Ray)

February 26, 2009 · Leave a Comment

20070715-xbox360-cookery-rachel-rayWell, it’s happening all over again. Festival season starts in a couple of weeks with SXSW in Austin, TX.

With some of the music scene’s most respected people, companies, and institutions throwing the sickest parties featuring the sickest bands, why does Rachel Ray have to ruin all the fun?

It’s the festival equalvent of going to a house party in high school and realizing that your friend’s parents are still there, serving expensive mixed drinks, and dancing to Busta Rhymes with all the other 16-year-olds. (Maybe that’s just an experience special to my  high school years in Orange County.)

The showcase, Rose’s Mojito and Rachael Ray’s Feedback: The B-Side (what?), features The Hold Steady, the New York Dolls, Bob Schneider, and others.

Interested? The showcase will be on Saturday, March 21 at Maggie Mae’s.

It should be…tasty.

On Being A Party Pooper (Sorry I Missed Your Party)

February 24, 2009 · Leave a Comment

bongdogRecently the party’s been crashing me. With great shows and dance parties around every corner, Allston’s rightly earned it’s nickname: Allston Rock City.

However, there’s also a reason why it’s called “The Student Ghetto” and recently, I haven’t been feeling nearly ghetto enough.

Indeed, where my hunger for a good 40 oz. once thrived, my excitement for quiet nights at home now comfortably resides.

Should I feel guilty? Should I spend my weekends like my fellow college students: at wild parties that I’ll inevitably never remember? No.

Especially after running into this gem: Sorry I Missed Your Party.

Ah, some may say it’s better to have gone than to have missed something epic; yet, I guess that’s just another facebook picture I don’t mind never being tagged in.

…our hearts just grow fonder and fonder

February 22, 2009 · 1 Comment

A beloved friend of mine graced Allston this weekend and continued to inadvertatly spark a conversation about how JC & L has lacked content lately.f_kissinbunnim_5f094ed

No longer.

Today marks a month since the last I posted. I confess, it might be the spirit of the season but, I blame all the neglect on a little thing called love. Yes, that feeling horrible feeling that’s much like feeling nauseous but a little dreamy all at the same time.

That’s what I’ve been up to. But how’s Allston? But how’s the state of all things awesome and amazing? But how’s the state of this blossuming blog?

I am hoping all is well. In Allston news–

Just this past Saturday night, there was yet another good ol’ fashioned Allston HOOTENANNY on Allston Street which showcased New England’s best up and coming folk artists.

Performers included Tyler Bussey, Vikesh Kapoor, Nic Beaven, and Spitzer Space Telescope, among many others.

Just two weeks ago, Brooklyn’s crunk punks, Ninjasonik, and Japanther played Greylock’s “Gay Gardens.” That same night, You Can Be A Wesley, played an intimate basement show in Brookline.

YCBAW recently released an all new album and has started playing shows in the area after the band was reunited in Janurary after members came back to Boston after studying abroad.

Stick around for more news on what’s good in Allston, music, and life because we all know as time goes by, our hearts just grow fronder and fonder of eachother. Until next time!
