Entries from November 2008
After taking the world’s most embarassing spill off my bike on Saturday, I can’t imagine anything better than Deerhunter, Vivian Girls, and Times New Viking at the Paradise Rock Club to ease my pains.
Fresh from Hotlanta, GA, Deerhunter’s noise rock/shoegaze is like nothing I’ve ever heard before. With albums like “Turn It Up Faggot”/Deerhunter (2005), Cryptograms (2007), and Microcastle (2008), Deerhunter’s haunting sound sooths and disturbs.
Lead singer, Atlas Sound has also made a name for himself as a solo-artist and blogger.
Tonight’s opening acts include Ohio’s Times New Viking, and Brooklyn’s girl punk trio Vivian Girls.
Doors are at 7pm and for $14, this show’s a steal.

SJB dominates Meows & Muses!
Despite being abandoned by everyone I have ever known and/or loved, I managed to emerge triumphantly from my cozy bed of animal print and journey to the WTBU radio station this sunny Monday morning.
I’m an independent woman. I don’t need anyone or anything.. except cats and Mexican food.
Point being: today I played a lot of my favorite music that I wouldn’t normally play on Meows & Muses because I’m here alone and no one can tell me what to do.
Here’s the playlist… maybe if you’re lucky J. Choi will even give you an MP3 or two.

MTV has always been frighteningly good at crushing good things and distorting them into cheesy pieces of shit. Thus, the birth of MTV Game’s Rock Band.
In Rock Band, gamers can pretend to play music with fake intruments instead of playing boring real music with real instruments.
The Rock Band soundtrack includes hits from Metallica, The Foo Fighters, and David Bowie. Included in this all-star line-up is The Beatles.
Due to their cult following and the popularity of Rock Band-esque games, MTV will be releasing an exclusively Beatles game:
– The game is designed to take users on an “experiential journey” through the Beatles’ career, music and vision. It will also include new types of interactive gameplay associated with the Beatles’ imagery in addition to its music. Surviving members Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr, as well as Yoko Ono Lennon and Olivia Harrison, are involved in the vision and creative direction.

…and I wonder if “experimental journey” mean stimulation acid trip.

…or has blogging already solidifed my too witty/geeky/socially awkward status?
Either way, have you guys seen the new Watchman trailer?!

Arguably the best comic book of all time, Watchmen’s recent hype inspired me to pick up the graphic novel and see for myself. Simply, the book is a friggin’ page turner.
The more I think about it the more excited I get for the comic’s feature film debut in March 2009.
Aired on a Spike TV award show, the new trailer gives anxious audiences a bigger peak into the up coming feature. With actual dialogue and and clearer shots of the main characters, those familiar with the graphic novel can almost pick out the frames from the comic and find its corresponding scene in the trailer! AWESOME!

Well, we did it. Minorities, youth, and the internet generation has made a difference.
Never before has American politics seen such a strong youth turn out. We didn’t need any of that “Vote or Die” bullshit. We followed our guts and voted because we cared, not because it was cool.
Boston has always been super liberal but I have never seen it so united. From Harvard to BU, people are going wild.
I am so proud of what we have become. The Red Sox couldn’t have done anything like this.
What do we do from here?
Remain critical of our government.
Remain informed.
Remain connected through the internet and through conversation.
..and most importantly, remain optimistic.
I applaud everyone who had a part in this monumentous night.
The new American century is here.
