New Mugison This Week – Mugiboogie

June 30, 2008 · 1 Comment

Dubbed Iceland’s “Frank Zappa,” Mugison (or Örn Elías Guðmundsson – whatever’s easier for you to pronounce) is releasing a new album Mugiboogie (Icepac Recordings) this week!

Mugison is a one-man band armed with a Mac and a guitar. After studying in London to become a record producer, Mugison traveled back to Iceland where he recorded 2004’s Mugimama (Is This Monkey Music?) off 12 Tonar Records.

That year, at the Icelandic Music Awards, Mugimama was named Album of the year with track nine, “Murr Murr,” winning Best Song.

Here’s a link to my favorite Mugison song off Mugimama, “What I Would Say At Your Funeral.”

Fun Fact: Mugison translates to “the son of Muggi” in Icelandic, which is Mugison’s father’s, Muggur, nickname.

    Hey there sir,

I don’t mean to nitpick, but for future reference you should know that Mugison’s father is actually called Guðmundur (hence the “Guðmundsson” – which means “son of Guðmundur” in the elongated version of his name. His nickname is Muggi, which is kind of a reverse “Gummi”, if you get my drift.

If you’re interested in the goings on of Icelandic music, you should check out our site at http://www.icelandmusic.is

Other than that; cheers and thanks for a nice blog.
